Orphan Care and Child Protection

The children of Kiyinda who have lost one or both parents face extraordinary vulnerability, often living with elderly grandparents, overextended relatives, or in child-headed households. Our orphan care program reaches these children with comprehensive support that addresses their physical, emotional, and developmental needs.

We provide regular food distributions to households caring for orphaned children, recognizing that additional mouths to feed strain already limited resources. Where needed, we assist with shelter improvements, ensuring that children have safe places to sleep protected from weather and elements. Our team conducts regular home visits to monitor children’s well-being, identify emerging needs, and provide emotional support and encouragement.

For orphaned children who lack adequate adult supervision, we facilitate connections with responsible community members, guidance and oversight. We work to keep siblings together whenever possible, understanding that maintaining family bonds provides crucial emotional stability during times of loss and transition. Where children are in particularly vulnerable situations, we advocate with local authorities and community structures to ensure their protection and explore longer-term solutions.

Our child protection efforts extend beyond orphaned children to all vulnerable minors in our service area. We educate children about their rights and personal safety, train community members to recognize and respond to signs of abuse or neglect, and work collaboratively with local leaders to create environments where children can grow up free from harm.
